Sin City Siesta: Here’s the Best Mexican Food Las Vegas Strip

Need a drop in place for a bite to eat anytime of the day while browsing the shops of the Venetian Canal Las Vegas? Enter Canonita – the breezy temperature controlled indoor yet outdoor-feel Mexican cantina nestled along the waters of the Grand Canal shops at the Venetian and Palazzo. We say indoor-outdoor because it is indoor entirely however if you have ever been to the Grand Canal, you know that you feel outside walking along the Venice inspired canal complete with blue sky above with foamy clouds.
There is an entirely indoor area in the restaurant complete with a roof if you do not prefer to gaze at the action along the canal. Sitting along the canal for people watching and canal gondola boat singing is quite entertaining. You may be tempted to take the venetian gondola canal ride after hearing the boat rower’s angelic opera music.
This place is perfect if you are looking for just a snack and something to parch your thirst after walking around for hours looking for the best Mexican restaurant along the Las Vegas strip. If you want to splurge order a strawberry margarita blended or if you are watching your waistline, go for a skinny margarita.
Ask the server to skip the agave and either go without any sweetener or a touch of a non-caloric sweetener alternative to minimize the amount of skinny margarita calories. Salty with Tajin and spicy is the way to order this skinny with serrano chiles.
Is agave healthy? It is a lower glycemic-index sweetener which means it absorbs slower into your blood stream than traditional sugars, however it still has the calories. Use a healthy non-caloric organic sweetener like liquid stevia; aways carry one in your purse.
We ordered the mono-unsaturated fat guacamole. What to eat with guacamole? If it is treat day and you just walked a lot an occasional chip snack won’t hurt you. On a normal day ask for cucumber slices or some sliced veggie, even lettuce leaves, to dip into the guacamole in lieu of the crispy chips.
The customer relations here was friendly, thoughtful, and nice. Our server was super patient with detailed requests even when I second-guessed her on the skinny margarita. She did a double-check with the bartender to make sure they did not use the agave.
She brought the bill in a timely manner and we would classify this as a Sin City restaurant as things to do in Vegas on a budget. We recommend this place at your future Vegas trip during your shopping. You will have a fun laid-back experience with a bit of romance laced with some great guacamole and margaritas!
P.S. If you are on the fly, stop at the Street Taqueria for the guacamole, street tacos and even margaritas on the go. https://canonita.com/menu/?menu=street_taqueria
